Embu receives Sh10 million worth of medical supplies

The County Government of Embu on Friday received a consignment of non-pharmaceutical products worth Sh 10 million from Mission for Essential Drugs and Supplies (MEDS).

The supplies including clinical gloves, face masks and shields, syringes, aprons, cotton wool, blood bags among others are meant to assist health personnel across the four sub-counties render services well.

Deputy Governor Kinyua Mugo while receiving the supplies at Embu Level Five Hospital, announced that another consignment of drugs estimated at Sh.20 million was due to arrive on Saturday.

He said they were also expecting an additional shipment of drugs worth Sh.34 million next week that will go a long way in alleviating shortage of drugs in all the health facilities across the county.

The development comes as a relief to patients who have been complaining of lack of drugs in almost all the health facilities across the county.

The Deputy Governor assured residents that by the end of next week, all the facilities will have enough drugs to alleviate their suffering.

Going forward, Mugo promised that mechanisms will be put in place to ensure drugs and related commodities are procured on time to curb scarcity.

“It is our desire to replenish medical stocks on time to ensure patients are able to get proper healthcare all year round,” he said.

He attributed the shortages to the procurement cycle that is beyond their control leading to delays in arrival of the commodities.
