Learners at Kirigi Day Secondary School in Manyatta Constituency, Embu County have received a short in the arm after Senator Alexander Mundigi donated 10 computers to the institution.
The donation came as a relief especially to the pioneer class of senior school under the Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC) at a time when the learners are faced with acute shortage of learning materials countrywide.
School Principal Margaret Wanja said digital technology gadgets such as computers were critical tools for fostering creativity and problem solving through digital content creation and coding, saying the donation was a well-thought out initiative.
She said the donation alongside computer laboratory development by KenGen last year as part of its Corporate Social Responsivity (CSR), will enable them to equip the learners with the necessary digital schools from early years.
Speaking after receiving the computers and commissioning of the lab by Senator Mundigi on Wednesday, Ms Wanja said through the donation, they have now been able to equip the lab with a total of 17 computers.
“We are progressively transitioning to digital learning to ensure that students who do not have the gadgets at home have an equal chance to develop digital competencies,” she said.
Senator Mundigi said he has been running the program of equipping schools with computers as a way of supplementing what the government was doing through his earnings and donations from friends.
He called on other leaders and well-wishers to pool resources for education and other projects aimed at improving the livelihoods of Embu residents.
“The Government cannot do it alone. We need to have a collaborative effort between leaders, the private sector and well-wishers to come together to drive community development,” he said.
