A family in Mombasa County is appealing for urgent financial assistance to save the life of their two-year-old daughter, who is battling stage four eye cancer.
The family of Urivela Bakari from Likoni Sub-County is appealing to well-wishers to help raise funds for the treatment of their two-year-old daughter.
Her parents, Bakari Dena and Eunice Adhiambo, said their daughter’s condition was first noticed in December 2025, when they observed an unusual change affecting one of her eyes.
The distraught parents said the family has exhausted its savings and now survives on donations from well-wishers while trying to continue with the child’s treatment.
The couple took her to Kwale Eye Centre, where doctors carried out examinations and diagnosed her with eye cancer.
She was later referred to Lighthouse for Christ Eye Hospital and subsequently to Kenyatta National Hospital for advanced medical care.
The family said the diagnosis came as a shock, as Urivela had previously been a healthy and playful child. She was admitted to Kenyatta National Hospital in January 2026 after her condition worsened.
Medical specialists recommended immediate surgery to prevent the cancer from spreading with the affected eye having been removed.
Although the operation was successful, the family said the disease has continued to advance and has now reached stage four, according to medics.
A distraught Bakari said the daughter’s illness has taken a heavy emotional and financial toll on the family. “Watching my youngest daughter battle this illness has been draining, both emotionally and financially. Every day is filled with uncertainty as we struggle to meet her medical expenses,” said Bakari.
The family said they have so far spent Sh81,000 on hospital bills, medication, and related expenses, raised through contributions from relatives, friends, and well-wishers.
They said the financial burden has since become overwhelming and appealed to kind-hearted people and philanthropists to come to the aid of the family before it is too late.
They are now appealing to members of the public to help raise Sh120,000 to facilitate Urivela’s continued treatment, expressing hope that timely medical care will improve her chances of recovery.
“My greatest wish is to see our daughter recover from this illness,” said Eunice, appealing for support from well-wishers during this difficult period.
