Seven recent victims of FGM who were rescued from their parents in Galole division, Tana River County last week are currently being held in a police station for lack of a rescue centre in the region.
The Tana River County Anti-FGM Crusader, Ms. Sadia Hussein has therefore appealed to the local County government to build rescue centres in the vast region to accommodate such victims even as she appealed to all communities practicing FGM to stop it as it contravened the human rights of the girl child.
Speaking to the press in Hola town on Tuesday, Ms. Hussein who is also the Chairlady Dayye women group said the rescued girls were taken to Hola Referral hospital for treatment before they were placed at Hola police station as the relevant government departments seeks a home to accommodate them.
Commenting on the sad issue, Tana River County Commissioner, Oningoi ole Sosio confirmed that two parents have been arrested after subjecting their two daughters to the cut.
On the other hand, Tana River deputy governor, Salim Batuyu said they have set aside Sh10 million to fund construction of three rescue centres in the County.
He said the centres will be built in Garsen, Hola and Bura townships to ensure each of the three Sub Counties namely Tana Delta, Tana River and Tana North was catered for.
