Speaking during the official opening of the Samburu land registry, Lands Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Alex Mbuuri said that a lands registrar has already been posted in the new office and will commence work immediately.

He said that the new office will now be responsible for all land adjudication matters and that all Samburu files at the lands office in Nyahururu have already been handed over to the Maralal Office.

“There are 5,000 title deeds to be produced now that Maralal town has been planned and the lands ministry is ready to partner with the county government to ensure that these titles are produced and issued to the owners,” he said.

The CAS also inspected the ongoing construction of Maralal Ardhi house that will permanently house the lands offices.

At the same time Mbuuri handed over land registry equipments donated by the European Union (EU) in partnership with Food Agricultural Organisation (FAO) which included GPS, printers, walk in filing cabinets to aid in the operalisation of the lands registry.

Samburu Deputy Governor Julius Leseeto lauded the national government and the development partners for bringing land services to Samburu County.

“This is a historic day because since independence we have never had a lands office in Samburu County, now our people will not travel to Nyahururu to get title deeds,” he said.

Also present was Samburu County Commissioner Abdrisak Jaldesa, National Land Commission Commissioner Tiyah Galgalo, EU representative David Mwangi and FAO representative Husna Mbarak.
