Former president of Ghana Nana Addo, has eulogised the former Kenya’s prime minister Raila Odinga as a great son of Africa.
Nana , who visited the grave of the late Raila Odinga at ‘Kang’o ka Jaramogi’ in Bondo yesterday, said Odinga contributed immensely to democracy not only in Kenya but also in Africa.
The former president said he lost a personal friend who had visited him thrice in Ghana when he was still serving as the president.
He disclosed that the last visit Odinga made was when the late Odinga was seeking to be the chairman of Africa Union council which he endorsed .
” I gave him a node because he was capable and competent and the position befitted a person of his stature,” said Nana.
The former Ghana president was flanked by Kenya’s cabinet secretary Musalia Mudavadi who termed the visit by Nana as utmost respect not only to Raila Odinga’s family but also to Kenyans at large.
National assembly speaker Moses Wetang’ula who was part of the delegation in Bondo asked the political class to emulate Odinga saying he had not permanent political enemies but sustained interest and patriotism.
” We politicians are always quick to judge and conclude. If there is a lesson we need to learn from Baba is that there are no permanent enemies and friends in politics but and that we should be led by sustained interests and patriotism,” said Wetangula.
Former attorney general Amos Wako said Raila unsuccessfully pushed for the parliamentary system of governance in the run up to the promulgation of the 2010 constitution but there is need for the country to reconsider Raila’s proposal in future constitutional reviews saying the parliamentary system would solve the problem of corruption and ethnicity in the country.
Other members of the delegation who paid homage to Odinga include KANU party leader Gedion Moi, Cooperatives Cs Wyclife Oparanya Enviroment CS Dr Deborah Baraza, Busia governor Dr Paul Otuoma, Dr Wilber Ottichilo (Vihiga), James Orengo (Siaya) and Fernandes Barasa (Kakamega) who condoled with the family of Odinga vowing to ensure his legacy of democratic society lives on.
Dignitaries and elected leaders as well as visitors from across the world have continued to visit the grave of former prime minister Raila Odinga who was laid to rest on October 19 .
