Garissa Water and Sewerage Company (GAWASCO) has started installing water meters in all households and premises in Garissa town to reduce non-revenue water usage which has been denying the company millions of shillings.
Addressing the press today at his office, GAWASCO Managing Director Yusuf Abdi said the company has been losing over Sh 60 million per year due to non-revenue water.
Abdi assured the citizens that once the meters are installed there will be uninterrupted piped water supply.
“I assure the public that the meters will be installed for free. Do not give anyone money to get your meter,” Abdi said
“Using metered water will help the citizens to get uninterrupted water while at the same time, the company will be able to collect revenue to improve the service delivery,” he added
Abdi further said that over 5,000 water meters will be installed to all households in the next few weeks and warned that anyone found conducting illegal water connections will face the law.
He expressed optimism that they will be able to collect a monthly revenue of Sh 17 million up from the Sh 12 million collected currently.
