Nyeri County Health Services Fund Board Chairperson Anthony Maina Mithanga has called upon the Government to declare cancer a national disaster.
Maina noted that cancer had become a threat to many Kenyans who he said were suffering from the disease hence leaving many families with nothing after using all what they have to treat the disease.
Speaking yesterday during the thanksgiving ceremony of Chinga MCA Kiruga Thuku at Ngaru Primary School grounds in Othaya constituency, Maina asked citizens to go for cancer screening regularly so that they can know their status and get early treatment.
“Let us all go for cancer screening regularly so that we know our status,” he pleaded.
The Chairperson also called upon the youth to join technical institutes for secure technical jobs to be self-sustaining.
He said the majority of youth have engaged into consumption of alcohol instead of joining technical institutions which he said had promised a better future if only they agreed to join and learn more courses.
“Let our youth join these polytechnics because once they finish the course, they can get jobs and sustain themselves in future,” he advised.
Othaya MP Wambugu Wainaina who was also present took the opportunity to thank Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga who was present for uniting Nyeri leaders.
Wainaina said Nyeri people would remain united as one and develop the county together. He also said that he would work together with all Othaya MCAs and remain as one. “We shall not allow anyone to separate us,” vowed Wainaina.
