The Government has issued about 2,700 title deeds to residents of Nyandarua County who have lived for decades without land ownership documents.
Speaking during the issuance ceremony, Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome said the exercise followed long-standing complaints from residents, particularly those living in former colonial villages.
She said the government had responded to the concerns raised by wananchi, adding that the issuance of title deeds was evidence of its commitment to fulfilling development promises.
“We have listened to the cries of people living in colonial villages. This is evidence that the current government is delivering on its promises,” she said.
Wahome added that the title deeds will enable beneficiaries to access credit facilities from financial institutions and invest in development projects.
“It will be a new dawn for the residents. They can now go to the bank and access loans to start businesses and improve their livelihoods,” she added.
Nyandarua Governor Moses Kiarie Badilisha welcomed the initiative and lauded the establishment of a land’s office in Ol Kalou town, noting that it would bring services closer to residents.
He said residents previously travelled long distances to access land services in Nyahururu, but the new office would ease access and improve efficiency.
“It is now a dream come true since residents will only travel a few kilometers to access government services,” said the Governor.
Nyandarua Woman Representative Faith Gitau urged residents not to politicize the issuance of title deeds, dismissing claims that the exercise was linked to the upcoming by-election in Ol Kalou Constituency.
She said the programme was part of ongoing government development initiatives and not influenced by political activities.
“These developments are not being done because of the by-election. We thank the government for delivering on its promises,” she said.
Gitau encouraged residents to continue supporting government programmes, noting that more development projects would be realized through continued cooperation.
Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano, former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria and Lands Principal Secretary Nixon Korir were among leaders who attended the event.
