Government to start 2nd phase Registration for farmers

The Government will start phase two of farmer’s registration in Machakos and every farmer is required to register their details so as to receive subsidised fertiliser.

Machakos County Commissioner Josephine Ouko said this during a Public Participation exercise in Matuu of Masinga Sub County, when they toured the area with the Governor and County officials.

She said that every farmer either small-scale or large-scale in Machakos County is required to register so that the government can access their data regarding the subsidised fertiliser.

The County Commissioner also called upon those living in Nairobi but have farms in Machakos to ensure they have been registered.

“The Government has good intentions for farmers in Machakos, because when they access the data they are able to cater to the farmers’ needs which will improve the county’s production rate,” said Madam Ouko.

Ms Ouko hailed the Government for lowering the fertiliser prices from Sh7500 to Sh2500 and encouraged Machakos residents to keep on registering so that the prices continue going down.

This comes days after Agriculture and Livestock CS Mithika Linturi launched phase two farmers’ registration and Inua Jamii programme, where he said that they want to use the census approach of going to every village and every homestead to register all farmers.

He also said they will use the results of the first phase to help improve the services of the second phase and that farmers have appreciated the technology used and will be a big tool in giving directions on how to manage the agricultural sector.
