The government has proposed amendments to the anti-doping framework to align Kenya’s efforts to contain the vice with international standards.
The Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill 2026, the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) Anti-Doping Policy Rules, 2026, and the National Anti-Doping Policy 2026 seek to recognize the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya as the sole national anti-doping authority and expand the law to cover gyms, fitness centers, and all sports organizations.
Stakeholders in Kakamega County submitted their views on proposed amendments during a public participation forum convened by the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) in collaboration with the county government at Bukhungu Stadium.
ADAK representative Elvis Gitau said the proposed amendments seek to align Kenya’s anti-doping framework with international standards by updating key definitions and expanding the scope of the law to cover all sports organizations, fitness centers, and gyms.
Gitau said the amendments also propose to allow testing of athletes at any time and place without prior notice, strengthen anti-doping provisions, and enhance the investigative powers of compliance officers.
Kakamega County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Sports Jackline Masicha said the public participation exercise demonstrates the government’s commitment to involving stakeholders in developing policies that safeguard the integrity of sports.
Masicha emphasized the need for sustained collaboration between ADAK and county governments through regular awareness and sensitization programmes to ensure athletes fully understand anti-doping regulations and avoid violations resulting from inadequate information.
She noted that the county remains committed to creating an environment where sports talent can thrive under the principles of fairness, honesty, and respect for established rules.
“As a county, we are committed to nurturing talent in an environment built on integrity, fairness, and respect for the rules of sport. Together, we can protect our athletes and promote clean sport at every level,” said Masicha.
The public participation exercise is being conducted nationwide, with views collected from stakeholders expected to inform the proposed amendments before they are submitted to Parliament for consideration.
The forum was attended by Chief Officer for Sports Lawrence Omukoyani, Director of Sports Antony Simiyu, Principal Sports Officer Allan Wanga, ADAK representative Maryanne Mwaura, and other county officials.
