Grief as body of a minor who went missing found in a ditch

A  family from Mauko Estate in Busia County is mourning the death of their five year old daughter whose body was found at a ditch 50 metres away from their home.

Sheila Nabwire  said her daughter went missing on Tuesday at around 5.30 pm while she was away at work.

“I came back from work only to be told by my immediate neighbour that my child was not around,” she said adding that the neighbours’ children told her that her child had been lured by a stranger to an unknown destination.

Nabwire added that efforts to trace the whereabouts of the minor proved futile as nobody, including the neighbours had any clue of the girl’s whereabouts.

“I later reported the matter to Busia police station at around 8.00 pm,” she said, adding that she was called by police officers on Wednesday to identify another body that was recovered at Farm view area.

The distraught mother added that she received another call from a village elder on Wednesday evening that another body had been recovered wrapped in a paper bag in a ditch 50 metres away from their home.

‘’When I arrived there, the village elder volunteered to pull the body from the ditch only to find a beheaded child,” she said, adding that she was able to identify the body positively by the birth marks.

The recovered body has been moved to Busia County Referral Hospital Mortuary awaiting DNA tests for proper identification.
