Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) has been named the official host for the 250th American Festival, a landmark event that commemorates two and a half centuries of United States independence while serving as a platform to foster innovation, strengthen educational ties, and bridge cultures through meaningful international collaboration.
By bringing together an assorted community of students, innovators, and educators, the festival aims to honor the deep-rooted ties between Kenya and the U.S. while nurturing new opportunities for shared growth and cultural exchange.
The festival also provides a vibrant platform for American organizations to showcase their advancements in technology and innovation. These exhibits will facilitate dynamic networking opportunities, encouraging collaboration between industry leaders and the broader Kenyan community of scholars and entrepreneurs.
During a meeting with Vice Chancellor Prof. Victoria Ngumi on Friday, Regional Public Engagement Specialist at the US Embassy Mr. Mark Burrell emphasized the festival’s importance terming it a key fixture on the American calendar that celebrates the enduring principles of freedom, innovation, and diversity, while underscoring the value of strong international partnerships.
“We want this event to be a bridge that showcases American culture while providing a platform for the community to explore opportunities available through scholarships, global academic partnerships, and entrepreneurial innovations.”
“We are bringing a wealth of expertise directly to the campus, companies that will highlight their latest services, and through virtual sessions with top-tier universities, we will additionally provide students and staff with an engaging look at global academic opportunities and international exchange programmes,” noted Mr. Burrell.
Welcoming the opportunity for JKUAT to host this landmark festival, Vice Chancellor Prof. Victoria Ngumi highlighted the meeting as a productive forum that would allow both parties to brainstorm strategic areas for partnership and align their efforts to ensure the festival’s success.
“This partnership is a gateway to growth. By hosting this festival, we are providing our students and staff with the international exposure and collaborative opportunities essential to achieving our mission in teaching, research, and innovation,” Professor Ngumi said.
She further emphasized that JKUAT was keen to prioritize internationalization by pursuing strategic alliances that strengthen the university’s global presence, facilitate cross-border research, and empower staff and students through enhanced capacity-building initiatives.
The two-day festival, scheduled for May 28th–29th, 2026, will feature an extensive lineup of exhibitions, interactive sessions and engagement forums. The event is designed to serve as a hub for cultural exchange, academic collaboration, and professional networking.
