The Ministry of Education has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Economic Affairs, Education, and Research of the Swiss Confederation to promote collaboration in research, technology, and innovation.
The MOU was signed by the Principal Secretary for Basic Education Dr. Belio Kipsang who represented the Ministry of Education while the Swiss Confederation was represented by the State Secretary for Education, Research, and Innovation, Martina Hirayama at a ceremony held at Jogoo House in Nairobi.
Dr. Belio said the partnership aimed at creating opportunities for exchange programmes for lecturers from both countries, provide scholarship opportunities for Kenyan students to study in Switzerland, joint research initiatives, grants for research projects, and knowledge-sharing programs, among other areas.
“This agreement marks a significant step in strengthening ties between Kenya and Switzerland, fostering innovation and growth in education and research for mutual benefit,” said the PS.
To ensure effective implementation of the MoU, both parties agreed to establish a technical working committee.
Present at the signing ceremony were the Swiss Ambassador to Kenya Mirko Giulietti, the Secretary for University Education and Research Dr. Carol Hunja, the Director of Higher Education Mr. Ogutu, the Director of Research Dr. Roselinda Owuor, and officials from the State Department for Higher Education and Research and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
