St. Michael Primary School in Embu Town has received a major infrastructure facelift following the renovation of a classroom block and upgraded staffroom funded by the Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) Foundation at a cost of Sh2 million.
The initiative that is part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is set to benefit the learners and teachers by providing an improved environment for learning and teaching.
The move according to KPC Foundation Manager, Racheal Gathoni, is set to directly enhance academic performance and boost morale by offering learners and students a dignified space to study and work.
Speaking on Monday while commissioning the classroom block, Gathoni noted that the project was executed in conjunction with the school’s alumni and is set to benefit 760 pupils and 28 teachers.
She noted that the foundation had made an investment totaling Sh900 million in education across all the 47 counties in infrastructural improvement and students’ scholarships.
“Collectively, we have invested in 179 school projects across the country in construction, renovation, and equipping of classrooms, laboratories and dormitories,” she noted.
She said education has taken the biggest chunk of the foundation’s CSR projects, noting that investing in education is the ultimate catalyst for a secure future for learners and economic growth of the country.
The initiative also aimed at inspiring learners on the need to return back and invest in their former schools in future.
Embu Senator, Alexander Mundigi, challenged old students to always go back and help uplift their former schools to help in transforming public education.
He said uplifting education standards was a communal responsibility and not a matter of how much wealth one has.
Senator Mundigi said he had personally taken the que by rolling out a digital literacy initiative of donating computers to all day secondary schools across the country to supplement the government’s digital agenda through his earning and donations from friends.
The school head, Rose Wamai, said the initiative was godsend as the classroom block had sat abandoned for years because of leaking roof and dilapidated walls and roof triggering congestion across other classes.
