Kirinyaga University is in progress of admitting 4,784 first-year students during the 2026/2027 academic year, with over 3,300 students completing the online admission process ahead of physical reporting.
The university recorded a strong turnout on Tuesday, the first day of physical reporting, as newly admitted students arrived from different parts of the country to begin their academic journey.
The new cohort is pursuing a wide range of programmes offered by the institution, with students expressing optimism about acquiring skills that will prepare them for the job market and future careers.
An admission official said the strong response reflected growing confidence in the university and its academic programmes.
“This reflects the trust and confidence placed in our institution. We remain committed to delivering quality, accessible and inclusive education as we prepare to welcome our new cohort,” the official said.
Among the students joining the university is Emmanuel Mutemi, who has enrolled for a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. Mutemi said he is passionate about technology, innovation and developing solutions to real-world problems.
“I intend to build skills in programming, algorithms, data structures and systems design as I work towards a career in the technology sector” Mutemi noted
Another new student, Hisense Musimbi, has joined the university to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Education Arts and says she is prepared for teaching and other opportunities in the education sector.
The university from the third day started opening its facilities to the new students, including the library, which is an important partner in their academic journey. University librarians urged the new students to make full use of the available resources and seek professional assistance whenever they encounter difficulties in accessing information.
With thousands of students expected to join the institution, the university says it remains focused on providing an enabling environment for learning, research, innovation and skills development.
