Kitondo Boys trounces All Saints Boys in Eastern Region Rugby championship

Kitondo Boys High School defeated All Saints Boys High School, Embu County 7- 5 goals, earning a place at the National Ball Games scheduled for Thika town, Kiambu County, early August 2026.

The win for Kitondo School from Makueni County is sweet revenge following an earlier loss to All Saints, the defending champions in the Eastern Region.

Speaking after the win, Kitondo Boys coach Michael Satia likened the victory to “David versus Goliath,” saying few people expected his youthful team to beat the regional giants, who have the requisite exposure in this game.

“First of all, I thank God for how far He has brought us. We can say Goliath has fallen. Nobody expected us to beat All Saints Boys High School,” Satia posed.

While telling his boys that no team should defeat them twice, the coach instead urged them to remain focused and continue preparing for the national games.

“We had played with this team earlier and they beat us. When we met again in the finals, I told the boys that no team should defeat us twice. They heeded my advice and played hard and that is how we won the game,” said Satia while addressing the media on Saturday at Makueni Boys High School Makueni Sub-county, where the Eastern Region Ball Games were held.

He also lauded the school administration for the team’s success, saying that the players sacrificed their holidays and mid-term breaks to train.

“Our principal has always supported the rugby team to remain in school, especially during holidays and midterm breaks to continue training. This commitment has brought us this far,” said the coach.

In football, boys from Tumaini Secondary School, Makueni County, booked a place at the national ball games after trouncing Kathekakai Secondary School, Machakos County, 3-1.

The win is significant after the two teams faced off in the quarterfinals, ending up in a barren draw of 0-0.

At the same time, the Musuuni Girls Secondary School football team grabbed a place in national games after beating Dr. Charles Girls Secondary School, Machakos County, 8-7 in a penalty shootout.

Dr. Charles secondary which is the Eastern Region’s defending champion, was edged out after they drew 1-1 even after playing the extra time.

Speaking to the media, the school’s coach, Michael Muasya, said that the game was hard, but the girls soldiered on and won the Eastern Region title, hence earning a place at the national games.

“The game was hard, but the girls soldiered on and won. We are the Eastern Region Champions in soccer. We shall go to nationals and do well,” Muasya predicted.

“This is the first time to go to play in national games. It is even the first time we have played at the regional level. So I thank God, this is dream that has come to pass,” he noted.

He attributed the win to intensified trainings, besides going for tournaments that made the team win the game.

“We had a good team this year, we trained hard and went for tournaments. The team is in good shape,” he said.
