Machakos Woman Rep asks for fuel subsidy reintroduction

Machakos Woman Representative Kamene Kasimbi has asked the national government to review fuel prices to cushion Kenyans against inflation.

Kamene said the current increase of fuel prices is hurting Kenyans already reeling under harsh economic times and urged the government to reintroduce fuel subsidy.

“Any further fuel increase will be unbearable for Kenyans.  Already prices of basic commodities are on the rise due to the increasing fuel costs,” said Kamene.

Speaking at the Mwala Deputy County Commissioner’s office in Makutano, today when she distributed more than 120 water thanks to several Community Based Organisations and individuals, the woman representative asked President William Ruto to engage stakeholders in the energy sector and find a solution for the escalating fuel costs.

“We are asking the president to call his Cabinet Secretary for Energy and see how the prices of fuel can be reviewed downwards,” said Kamene.

She also called on the team leading the bi-partisan talks to fast track the process for the benefit of Kenyans.

“I am pleased by the progress by the team and we hope the dialogue will soon be concluded so that issues that are touching on the common man are handled,” said the woman representative.

Kamene called on leaders in Machakos County to unite and rally behind Governor Wavinya Ndeti.

“Let’s all join hands and work together including the national government for the sake of development,” she added.

On water harvesting the legislator reiterated her commitment in ensuring that every household and institution in the county has a tank for water harvesting and storage.

Kamene noted that with the current climate change there was need for rain water harvesting to cushion residents during drought seasons.

“The aim is to harvest as much water as possible to ensure that residents and especially women and children don’t suffer in search of water during the dry seasons,” added the woman representative.
