The Makueni County Assembly Committee on Appointment vetted nominees for the County Executive Committee Members for Agriculture and Trade to fill the two vacant slots
The committee, chaired by the Makueni County Assembly Speaker Douglas Mbilu, vetted Irene Makau to fill the position for Trade, Marketing, Industry, Culture and tourism that fell vacant following the demise of Dr. Sonia Nzilani.
Also interviewed was Serah Nzau to fill the position of Agriculture, irrigation, Livestock, Fisheries and Cooperative Development after the holder of the office Elizabeth Muli was dismissed from the position three months ago. The vetting was conducted at the Assembly in Wote Town in Makueni subcounty.
During the vetting exercise, the nominees outlined their plans for their respective departments and pledged commitment to serving the people of Makueni if approved by the county assembly.
“My priority will be to strengthen trade and industrial growth by creating opportunities that empower local entrepreneurs and improve the livelihoods of the people,” said Makau.
“Agriculture remains the backbone of our county’s economy and I am committed to supporting farmers through innovative, climate-smart and sustainable agricultural programs,” said Nzau.
The nominees further assured the committee of their readiness to support the implementation of Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr’s development agenda and work closely with stakeholders to enhance service delivery.
Following the conclusion of the vetting process, the Committee on appointments will retreat to prepare a report containing its recommendations.
The report will then be tabled in the County Assembly for either adoption or rejection.
Other members of the committee include Kikumbulyu South Member of County Assembly (MCA) Jades Kalunda, his counterpart for Kikumbulyu North Dr. Jackson Mbalu, Nominated MCA Martina Ngusye Kimilu and the county assembly Clerk Kevin Mutuku.
