Shock and grief have gripped the Kapyemit area in Uasin Gishu County after a 37-year-old man was arraigned in court over the alleged murder of his girlfriend following a domestic dispute.
The suspect, Jonah Kiplimo, is accused of strangling his fiancée to death at their one-room house in Kapyemit location during a quarrel that turned tragic. The incident left residents in shock.
According to police, Kiplimo fled to Nandi County shortly after the incident before surrendering on February 17, 2026, at Kobujoi Police Station in Aldai Sub-County. While at the station, he reportedly admitted that a quarrel between him and the deceased escalated, leading to her death.
He was later presented before the Eldoret Law Courts, where investigating officer Rachael Kiptoo sought orders to detain him for 21 days to allow police to complete investigations.
Kiptoo told Senior Resident Magistrate Daniel Sitati that detectives are yet to record statements from key witnesses and that a postmortem examination has not been conducted to establish the exact cause of death. She added that due to the gravity of the offence under investigation, the suspect is likely to face a murder charge once inquiries are finalized.
“Your honor, we pray that the suspect be detained at Eldoret Central Police Station for 21 days to enable us complete investigations,” the investigating officer submitted.
The suspect initially caused confusion in court when responding to the application but ultimately told the magistrate that he did not oppose being held in Eldoret Central Police custody for the 21 days sought by investigators.
“Your honor, I have no issue with the prayer that has been made before your court by the investigating officer that I be held in police custody for 21 more days to enable them complete their investigation into the said murder incident,” said Kiplimo to the consternation of the packed court.
The matter is scheduled for mention on March 16, 2026, as investigations continue.
