A night guard at Nyangoma market centre in Bondo sub county has been confirmed dead while his colleague is fighting for his life at St. Annes Nyangoma Hospital after they were attacked by armed robbers on Friday night while on duty.
The deceased guard Samson Ochieng (28) succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment at St. Annes Nyangoma Hospital where they were rushed to by members of the public.
The second guard Christopher Obiero (51) who sustained serious injuries is still receiving treatment at the same facility.
Bondo police commandant Robert Aboki who confirmed the incident said that his office received information about the incident from area assistant Chief Benson Nyerere upon which police officers immediately visited the scene.
Aboki revealed that the nightguards were seen by traders who had gone to open shops at the center at around 6.45 am in the morning who then called for help before alerting the area assistant chief.
The police boss reported that during the attack, the robbers broke into a shop belonging to Helen Akinyi and stole assorted foodstuff namely jerricans of cooking oil, bales of sugar and bales of flour valued at Sh130,000.
Aboki disclosed that the body of the deceased has since been transferred to Bondo Sub County Hospital mortuary as police launch investigation into the incident.
