Police in Murang’a are investigating a disturbing case in which a woman in Kanorero village, Kangema Sub-County, allegedly stabbed her three children killing two instantly and leaving the third hospitalized in critical condition.
The two who succumbed were aged seven and two, with the third, aged four years, was left nursing grievous injuries.
The woman, who is suspected to have attacked the children after accusing her husband of infidelity, later attempted to stab herself before surrendering at Kanorero Police Post.
The bodies of the deceased were moved to Kangema morgue, while the suspect was detained at Kangema Police Station for processing.
The children’s father, Julius Maina, recounted the horror of discovering what had happened after his wife called out to him at around 2am on Friday night.
“She shouted my name, telling me to come take my children and bury them. I found two of them already dead, while the third was clinging to life,” he said.
Maina revealed that only hours earlier, his wife had confronted him over suspicions of infidelity and expressed her wish to leave the marriage.
“I told her I had no objection if she chose to go, and I assured her she would always have access to see the children. I also promised she would never find another woman in my house,” he explained, adding that he is now seeking financial assistance to settle hospital and burial costs.
Family members condemned the killings, calling for justice. James Mwangi, a relative, urged authorities to take firm action on the woman.
“This was a cruel act. We are asking the government to ensure that justice is delivered for the two children who lost their lives,” he said.
Former Kanorero Assistant Chief, Mwangi Kihara, appealed to couples to seek guidance when facing challenges in marriage.
“Conflicts in homes should never end in violence. People should seek advice from elders, church leaders, or counselors instead of resorting to such destructive acts,” he advised.
Police have launched investigations as the community struggles to come to terms with the tragedy.
