Two bright but needy students from New Life children’s home in Mshomoroni, Junda Ward are appealing to well-wishers for help to enable them join their dream schools after excelling in their Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) exams.
Saum Mramba ,17, and Esther Khutushi ,16, secured 64 and 63 points respectively earning them both placement at Naivasha girls but have since been forced to stay at home due to school fees constraints.
Esther Khutushi’s predicament is unique as she was rescued as a minor back in 2016 working as a house help in the Kiembeni area in Bamburi Ward.
“I was brought to Kiembeni in 2016 as an eight-year-old from Western with the belief that I was coming to begin a new schooling life in Mombasa only for me to be turned into a domestic worker in a young family household,” said Khutushi.
She recounted the harrowing experience and thanked the Police and Children’s officers who rescued her from the home.
Mramba, an orphan admitted at new life Children’s home in 2017 attributes her stellar performance to discipline instilled at the institution and expressed her desire to pursue her education further.
“After my father passed on my education journey came to an abrupt halt until new life took me in and I’m happy I have excelled, now pegging my hopes on well-wishers to assist me continue with my education,” said Mramba.
New Life Children’s home Director Japheth Eyama has appealed for support to assist with the timely admission of the two students given admission to grade 10 began over one week ago.
“I call on the leadership and any well-wisher to come through for the bright girls to actualize their dream to study, ” said Eyama.
