Residents of Kipkaren ward in Nandi County are set to benefit from improved access to healthcare following the allocation of Sh 20 million by the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) towards the development of Kipkaren Salient Health Centre.
The funding, spearheaded by Nandi Woman Representative Cynthia Muge, is expected to support the expansion and improvement of the health facility, which serves residents from Kipkaren and neighbouring areas.
The Nandi Woman Representative Cynthia Muge said the investment comes as part of efforts to strengthen social services at the grassroots by ensuring that communities have access to essential facilities closer to their homes.
Muge stated that NGAAF’s mandate includes supporting programmes aimed at promoting social and economic empowerment and improving the welfare of vulnerable communities.
Speaking on the allocation, Muge said the investment in the health center reflected her commitment to improving the welfare of residents by prioritising projects that directly touch their lives.
She said her leadership was focused on the promotion of social services, noting that access to quality healthcare was an important component of improving the living standards of families.
“We are focused on the promotion of social services because our people deserve access to facilities that can improve their lives. Healthcare is one of the areas we must continue giving priority because it affects every family,” Muge said.
She said the Sh.20 million allocation was intended to help transform Kip Karen Salient Health Centre into a facility capable of responding more effectively to the healthcare needs of the local population.
Muge said development of health infrastructure was particularly important in rural areas where residents sometimes travel long distances to access medical services.
She added that strengthening local health facilities would not only make healthcare more accessible but would also reduce the financial and logistical burden faced by families seeking treatment.
The Woman Rep said the allocation was part of a broader approach to development in which social services, education, economic empowerment, and other community needs were given attention.
She said her office would continue working with relevant stakeholders to identify projects that could have a lasting impact on communities across Nandi County.
The initiative is also expected to benefit women, children, and elderly residents who rely heavily on nearby public health facilities for routine medical care, maternal services, and treatment of common illnesses.
Residents said the investment would be significant for the area, particularly because improved health facilities could enable patients to receive treatment without travelling to distant hospitals.
Community elder Moses Towett expressed optimism that the development would improve the quality of services available at the facility and contribute to better health outcomes.
The allocation comes at a time when improving access to healthcare remains a major development priority across rural Kenya, with communities calling for greater investment in health facilities, equipment, and personnel.
Muge said development should be measured by the extent to which it improves the lives of ordinary citizens, insisting that public resources must be directed towards projects that address genuine community needs.
She said the focus on social services would remain central to her development agenda, with healthcare, education, and empowerment programmes receiving continued attention.
The NGAAF initiative is therefore expected to give residents renewed confidence that they can access essential services within their locality.
The investment represents more than an infrastructure project and offers the prospect of bringing healthcare closer to the people as well as strengthening a vital social service that directly affects the well-being and productivity of the community.
