Rachuonyo East deputy county commissioner (DCC) Charles Kitheka has advised youth who will miss out on the Nyota program to wait for another phase.
He said 1701 young people applied for the National Youth Opportunities towards Advancement (NYOTA), but only 800 showed up for the verification exercise on Friday.
“The program will benefit 280 youths in the first phase,” he said and expressed gratitude to the youth for their peaceful participation in the verification exercise. He stated that those who qualified will soon benefit.
He said the Friday exercise aimed at identifying genuine applicants in need of funding adding the program will continue for the next five years and therefore those who will not qualify should not lose hope as they would benefit in future phases.
The Nyota programme that is supported by the World Bank, aims to transform the lives of youth across the country.
Kitheka reminded the youth to complete their entrepreneurial aptitude test (EAT) online saying it forms a key part of one’s qualification to gain government support.
He said the government was committed to fostering youth with innovative business ideas to enhance national economic development.
