President William Samoei Ruto has urged Kenyans to uphold unity and peaceful coexistence, noting that communal effort remains an important pillar in achieving accelerated national development.
Speaking in Vihiga County during the 20th anniversary celebrations of the Africa Divine Church, the Head of State commended the church for its contribution to the country’s social and economic transformation.
President Ruto lauded the leadership of Bishop Chabuga and the Africa Divine Church for their continued involvement in initiatives that promote education, health, and community empowerment.
“The Government of Kenya will continue partnering with churches and other faith-based organisations in advancing the country’s development agenda,” the President said.
He further announced a government contribution of Sh50 million towards the construction of a cathedral for the church.
The President underscored the importance of unity, adding that it is through harmony that Kenya will overcome development challenges and transition from a developing to a first world nation.
“When we are united, we are blessed and capable of achieving greater accomplishments for our country,” he stated.
On healthcare, the President assured Kenyans that measures have been put in place to address challenges in the supply of drugs and medical equipment. He said the government will ensure medical supplies are delivered directly to health facilities to enhance efficiency.
He also urged Kenyans to register with the Social Health Authority (SHA) to benefit from improved health services under the new universal healthcare system.
“We are determined to strengthen the health sector so that every Kenyan has access to affordable and quality medical care,” he said, adding that the government will not resort to increasing taxes to raise development funds.
During the event, the President announced several major development projects for Vihiga County, among them the construction of a Sh 900 million modern stadium on a 20-acre parcel of land.
He further pledged the construction of 10,000 units of affordable houses across the county, with 1,000 units each to be built in Luanda, Mbale, and Chavakali.
In a bid to support local traders and enhance local commerce, President Ruto revealed plans to construct 10 modern markets in Vihiga which include Hamisi, Kambogi, Serem, and Banja each estimated to cost Sh 70 million.
The President reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to fostering development through partnership, hard work, and unity of purpose.
