Regional Airline expands Eldoret flights amid rising demand

By F, KNA

Regional airline Jambojet has announced plans to increase its flight frequencies to Eldoret in response to rising passenger demand.

Speaking to the media in Eldoret, Jambojet Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Karanja Ndegwa said the airline currently operates 28 flights per week during the low season and 35 flights per week during the high season, but demand continues to outstrip supply.

“There are days when customers struggle to get flights because all seats are taken. With the arrival of our 10th aircraft in November, we will increase frequencies to Eldoret, especially on Fridays, Sundays, Mondays and Saturday mornings, moving to six flights a day. If demand remains strong, we may even increase to seven flights,” Ndegwa said.

The Nairobi–Eldoret route has already recorded more than 104,000 passengers by June this year, with the airline projecting the number to surpass 200,000 by year-end. The carrier also plans to expand its Eldoret–Mombasa service once new aircraft join the fleet, with the 11th and 12th planes expected in 2026.

Beyond expansion, Jambojet highlighted its corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects in the region. The airline has been working with Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company (ELDOWAS) to plant over 100,000 trees annually in Chebara, the main water catchment area for Eldoret.

On education, the airline stated that it sponsors students pursuing aviation training at the East African School of Aviation and provides internships to prepare them for the job market. Ndegwa noted that similar initiatives will be expanded in Eldoret.

The CEO further welcomed the challenge posed by other airlines and the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), saying it drives efficiency and innovation.

He emphasized that Jambojet’s relatively young fleet with an average age of six years provides fuel efficiency and lower maintenance costs, helping to keep fares competitive.

“Our focus is on sustainable profit, a price that works for the customer and also for Jambojet. That way, we can continue serving this market for the next 20 years and beyond,” added Ndegwa.
