Residents benefit from food and clothes worth Sh1.5 m

Needy Residents in Kitutu Chache South, Kisii County had a reason to smile after they received a foodstuff and clothes donation worth Sh1.5 million from Donya Charity Foundation.

The move which is a short-term measure to cushion at least 500 residents against food shortages during this planting season was presided over by the organization patron, who is also the Kisii County Woman Representative Ms.  Doris Donya.

The humanitarian gesture mirrors the government’s strategy to cushion Nyanza region residents against adverse effects of drought which had ravaged the country for many months by distributing over 200 metric tons of relief food in the neighboring Migori, Homabay and Kisumu Counties.

Donya noted that the donation was a relief for residents in a region where the weather forecast by the Meteorological department has shown there will be ample rains for crop production this season that will end in June.
She appealed to the residents to utilize their time efficiently to develop themselves saying the calls for mass demonstration by the Azimio One Kenya coalition was not cost effective for a people who should take advantage of the weather to till their land.

Donya who was speaking Monday also castigated the perpetrators of female genital mutilation and lauded the local chiefs who ensured that all children were in school as per the Ministry of Education directive.

Area National Government Affirmative Action Fund chair person, Moraa Kerochi said the two levels of government had agreed on full scholarship for those in dire need of the sponsorship.

At least 10 people also received treatment for jiggers with assistance from public health officers during the event.
