Residents of Bondo sub-county have decried the increasing rate of accidents after a roads’ contractor who was working on the Bondo-Usenge road abandoned the work two months ago.
Led by a trader at Nyamonye market, Fredrick Omolo, the residents lamented that the contractor closed sections of the road and created a lot of diversions which have caused numerous accidents especially around Masita, Komungu and Majengo.
They have complained that the contractor abandoned the road without even erecting road signs on the areas with diversions and this has led to a lot of damages as motorists are involved in accidents along that road day by day.
The MCA for East Yimbo Ward, Francis Otiato lamented that a lot of lives have been lost on that road because of the contractor’s negligence.
Otiato, who cited an incident where three people were rushed to Bondo sub-county hospital in critical condition following an accident around Komungu junction over the weekend, demanded to know the period that the work was supposed to take.
He lamented that a lot of complaints have been raised to the relevant authorities but nobody seemed to be concerned.
The residents who spoke to KNA have therefore threatened to sue the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) and the contractor over the lives which have been lost on that road.
