St. Andrews, Unity Homes win Kiambu County League titles

St. Andrews Football Club (FC) and Unity Homes Ladies FC have won the 2025/2026 Kiambu County League titles after finals held at Zetech University’s Mang’u Campus.

St. Andrews FC defeated Alliance Youngstars FC 1-0 in the men’s final, Sunday, while Unity Homes Ladies FC beat JKUAT Ladies FC 9-8 on penalties after the women’s final ended in a 1-1 draw during regular time.

St. Andrews FC will receive Sh200,000 for winning the men’s category, while Alliance Youngstars FC and Del Monte Youth FC will take home Sh100,000 and Sh50,000, respectively, for finishing second and third.

Unity Homes Ladies FC will receive Sh100,000 for winning the women’s category, while JKUAT Ladies FC will take Sh50,000 as runners-up, bringing the total prize money to Sh500,000.

The Department of Youth Affairs, Sports, and Communication said part of a Sh2.7 million sponsorship provided to the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), Kiambu Branch, earlier this year was set aside for the prize awards.

The sponsorship benefited more than 200 grassroots teams through payment of affiliation fees, helping ease the financial burden associated with participation in organised competitions.

The department said the support was intended to enable more grassroots teams to participate in organised competitions and provide young players with opportunities to develop their talent.

The initiative adds to the Kiambu County Government’s efforts to nurture football talent through grassroots competitions.

Speaking during the Wamatangi Champions Cup, Governor Kimani Wamatangi urged young footballers to remain focused on developing their talent.

“You are the future of football in Kiambu, so keep working hard and believe in yourselves. This tournament is just the beginning,” he said.

The league winners will receive their prizes during a gala dinner, with the Department of Youth Affairs, Sports, and Communication expected to announce the date later.
