Stakeholders sensitise youth on drug abuse

Youth in Laikipia County have been sensitised on the fight against drugs and substance abuse.

The stakeholders said drugs and substance abuse had become rampant among the young people hence the need to intensify their efforts against the vice.

The move comes days after the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua launched a campaign against alcohol and drugs abuse in Mt. Kenya region.

On Friday, the DP met with speakers and members of the county assembly from Mount Kenya region over the fight against illicit brews.

Laikipia East Deputy Commissioner Patrick Muli speaking in Likii informal settlement said the majority of youth fall victims of alcohol and drugs abuse for lack of guidance.

“We have engaged youth from Likii and Majengo informal settlement. We want to give them hope for life since we have witnessed the majority falling victims of alcohol and drugs abuse,” said Muli, adding some fall victims of alcohol and drug abuse without knowing.

The DCC pointed out that the government will not relent until it wins the fight against alcohol and drug abuse.

“This is just the beginning, we have decided first to engage youth by imparting information to help in the fight against illicit brews,” said the DCC.

Muli urged residents to join hands in the fight against the illicit brews by volunteering information that could lead to the arrest of the brewers in a bid to stop the vice.

Binti World Chief Executive Officer Ann Gakii said that Youth especially the boychild had been neglected which had led them to get involved in drug abuse and at the same time she said they are committed to mentoring the boychild on mental health.

Laikipia Talent and Skills Training Institute Director Paul Mwaniki on his part said young people needed their hope for life to be renewed to become better people in the society.
