Residents of Kapkatet in Kericho County are living in fear after a strange wild animal reportedly killed several of their livestock.
According to residents an unidentified animal broke into the homestead and mauled their livestock indiscriminately sending panic as residents took stock of the irreparable loss they incurred.
The animals killed at least 20 chickens at Togomin village, three calves and five goat’s livestock deaths over the past two weeks.
Peterson Rono, the Kapkatet Chairman told Kenya News Agency that there is general fear among the locals.
Rono said the villagers, from Chematich, Togomin and Kapletundo, among others have raised concern over their safety, especially for school going children who have had to go late to school following the development.
He said the killings have caused loses to the families saying if the killer animal was not captured and relocated, there could be more losses.
The area Chief Charles Mutai appealed to Kenya Wildlife Service to up their efforts in capturing or killing the animal to avoid more damage.
Mutai said a sheep was used as a bait in attempt to lure the animal to a trap but the attempt was futile.
