Street Families in Nyeri town; Christmas comes early

The Department of Gender, in collaboration with World Class Caterers on Monday organized a community outreach program to serve food to street families in Nyeri town.

The event which was held at Whispers Park in Nyeri town aimed at bringing joy and nourishment to those in need during this festive season, especially the street families.

Speaking during the event Mary Mwangi, social welfare officer, from the Department of Gender in Nyeri Central, said this initiative is not just about providing food, it’s about recognizing and uplifting community members who often go unnoticed.

Ms Mwangi said, “With the holiday season upon us, we wanted to spread love and compassion, reminding everyone that we are all part of one community,”.

She said understanding the importance of community support, her department in collaboration with World Class Caterers, renowned for their commitment to high-quality food services, volunteers worked together to serve street families in the Nyeri town, ensuring that everyone enjoyed a warm meal.

The event also included a short program featuring messages of hope and togetherness, sensitization on life skills, abstinence from drugs and substance abuse and other vices, Volunteers handed out food packages along with other goodies, Christmas songs and messages creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all.

The Department of Gender and World Class Caterers expressed their gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of this outreach program.

Ms Mwangi said as they move forward, both organizations are committed to continuing their efforts in supporting street families and fostering a community where everyone can thrive in.

During the event, the street families expressed their joy and thanked the department of gender for making sure they enjoyed food during the Christmas season.

Edwin Mwangi a street boy said the organizers showed them love and they could now afford a smile.

Another one Joseph Muhia said he was happy as most of the time street family’s live miserable lives as they go unnoticeable.
