Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo plans to initiate an education scholarship academy to accord bright needy students equal opportunity to pursue their educational dreams.
He told a closing ceremony of a mentorship workshop for beneficiaries of Nyamira county scholarship programme that he intends to start an academy where all the beneficiaries of the education scholarship could give back to the society by facilitating the education of other bright but vulnerable child access education just like them.
“Many children were desperate to pursue secondary education due to poverty prompting the introduction of the scholarship program to save these vulnerable children.” Explained the county boss.
He challenged the scholarship beneficiaries to ensure that they worked harder in attaining good grades to equally help other children who are vulnerable and come from poor backgrounds by contributing to the scholarship academy.
The County Executive Committee Member (CECM) in charge of education in Nyamira County Emily Ongaga, confirmed that all the county scholarship beneficiaries are taken through a mentorship programme during holidays to ensure that apart from the academic education they acquire in schools, they are also mentored through life skills sessions on how to handle life, career path, management of peer pressure and importance of high maintenance of integrity and proper morals in society.
“We look forward to come and celebrate good performance next year when the KCSE results will be announced because though you are vulnerable and hail from poor backgrounds the Governor has given you an equal opportunity to academically compete with other children who come from well do families economically, therefore one has no excuse of failing.” CECM Ongaga challenged the beneficiaries.
Governor Nyaribo is sponsoring 751 bright students but financially challenged whereby 119 are enrolled in national schools, 593 in extra County schools and 39 in county schools. The first cohort of 230 will sit their KCSE this year.
