Grief engulfed Rabuor village in Mbita Sub-County after a 13-year-old girl was found murdered and dumped in a thicket.
Confirming the incident, Mbita Deputy County Commissioner Peter Mutiso said the deceased, identified as Mary Triza, was a Grade Seven pupil at Kamsama Comprehensive School.
He said that the girl was last seen on Monday afternoon walking home from school for lunch but never reached home.
Mutiso said her body was discovered the following day dumped by the road side in Waondo Sub location.
Her father, Silas Otiko, said the shocking incident has left the family traumatized.
He said children from the locality were now too afraid to attend school, fearing for their safety.
Otiko called on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to move swiftly and bring those behind the heinous act to justice.
The deceased left school with her classmates before disappearing. However, no one noticed when she disappeared, neither did they hear any struggles or distress calls from the girl.
Preliminary investigations reveal that she bore multiple bruises, and had acid burns on her face and private parts. Police suspect she may have been defiled before being killed.
Suba North Member of Parliament Millie Odhiambo, has condemned the murder and pledged support for the grieving family.
She has also offered cash rewards to any witnesses coming forward with credible information leading to the arrest of the suspect or suspects.
The girl’s body was taken to Med-25 mortuary in Kirindo, where a post-mortem will be conducted to establish the exact cause of death.
Mutiso also urged residents with information to come forward, assuring the family that security personnel will stop at nothing in pursuit of justice.
The brutal killing has raised tension amongst the locals who are now calling on leaders and security agencies to ensure the perpetrators face the full force of the law.
