Trans Nzoia County Commissioner calls for political tolerance ahead of 2027 poll

Trans Nzoia County Commissioner Gideon Oyagi has cautioned against rising political temperatures in the country and urged leaders to be ambassadors of peace and unity.

Speaking during Madaraka Day celebrations at Lessos Primary School in Kwanza Sub County, Oyagi cautioned against divisive politics, saying it puts the country at risk of eroding the gains made since independence.

“Trans Nzoia is a small Kenya where all tribes have lived together as a family since independence. It worries me to see political leaders who should be preaching peace and encouraging us to live together differ before the very people they lead. Let us differ on ideologies but walk together on the path of peace and unity, ” he challenged.

Challenging the increasing cases of land grabbing and disputes in the region, Oyagi said the government will do everything to protect public and private property as he promised to ensure the law is adhered to.

On the national government’s affordable housing project, Oyagi said the government has kicked off the project in Kitale, where an estimated 1035 housing units will be erected.

Besides providing a chance for people to gain ownership of houses at affordable prices, Oyagi said the project will help provide employment to many youths, both skilled and unskilled, adding that Trans Nzoia residents will be given a priority.

Meanwhile, the CC urged elected leaders to help in the fight against drug and substance abuse, saying that insecurity is likely to increase if the vice is allowed to continue.

“As a security team we appeal to our leaders to help from the front preach against drug and substance abuse. The vice has destroyed many lives and because of that we cannot continue to bury our heads in the sand,” he said.
