Uasin Gishu Governor Dr Jonathan Bii has flagged off medical supplies worth Sh 28 million for distribution to the county’s six sub-county hospitals.
Speaking during the event, Governor Bii said the consignment will help maintain adequate stock levels in health facilities as the festive season approaches, a period that often sees increased demand for medical services.
“Today, we received and flagged off medical supplies destined for our six sub-county hospitals. This first batch is part of our ongoing efforts to ensure that all our health facilities remain adequately stocked as we enter the festive season,” said Bii.
He added that a second batch of supplies worth Sh 40 million is expected to arrive next week for distribution to dispensaries and health centres across the county.
Governor Bii urged residents to make use of available healthcare services, especially during the festive period and the ongoing season of rites of passage, noting that a response team has been set up to handle related medical emergencies.
“We urge our residents to promptly report any medical complications during this season of rites of passage. A dedicated response team has been established to provide timely care and prevent avoidable loss of life among our young people,” he said.
County Executive Committee Member for Health Services, Joseph Lagat, said the department is working to strengthen supply chains and monitoring systems to ensure timely distribution of essential drugs and medical commodities.
“We are enhancing our systems to make sure that every facility receives the necessary supplies and that no ward runs out of essential medicines,” said Lagat.
On his part, Chief Officer for Promotive and Preventive Health, Dr Paul Wangwe, acknowledged the role of healthcare workers in maintaining service delivery and called for continued cooperation between health staff and the community.
“The collaboration between our teams and the community is vital in sustaining effective healthcare services,” he noted.
The distribution exercise is part of the county’s efforts to support preparedness in local health facilities as the festive season approaches, when patient numbers are expected to rise.
