Nandi East Sub County Deputy County Commissioner Ngalia Ndaya has called on unemployed youths to take advantage of the ongoing government projects to acquire jobs that can enable them to earn a living.
Speaking during Madaraka Day celebrations held at Nandi Hills Stadium, the administrator observed that the ongoing government projects accommodate both skilled and unskilled youths, calling on the local youths to turn up in large numbers and utilize that opportunity to generate income that can help them improve their living standards as well as avoid engaging in hazardous activities that ruin their lives.
“Hard work pays. There is nothing that comes without working for it. Ensure you take advantage of the ongoing and upcoming government projects in the locality,” pointed out DCC Ngalia.
Ngalia regretted that many youths were engaging in unproductive activities that are geared towards ruining the future, warning them against gambling and idleness that can lead to depression, theft and other criminal activities that cause them to be jailed for lengthy periods in prison.
The DCC divulged that the county security team will not tolerate those engaging in unlawful activities that threaten the welfare of other residents.
He also called on those who have acquired jobs in the ongoing projects to maintain discipline at the workplace, including respecting the rules at work, observing that there were still opportunities at the government projects for the locals who are yet to acquire jobs.
“Youths should learn to work and earn out of their own sweat. The habit of waiting for handouts from politicians is a lack of discipline and respect,” noted the administrator.
The DCC further called on class eight dropouts and form four leavers to enroll for technical skill courses at the Ol’lesos National Polytechnic to acquire skills to enable them to work as skilled personnel in future government projects.
According to Ngalia, ongoing projects in Nandi East Sub County include Koitalel Samoei University, Modern Market, a tuition block at the Ol’lessos National Polytechnic, and phase two of the Nandi Hills water project, as well as upcoming projects which include affordable housing and an ICT centre of excellence.
