The County Government of Vihiga has stepped up efforts to digitise its services, following a benchmarking visit to Murang’a County, aimed at enhancing automation of services.
Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo led a county delegation on Monday to study best practices that will inform Vihiga’s digital transformation agenda and improve access to services for residents.
Speaking after the visit, Ottichilo said Murang’a County has made significant progress in digitising key sectors, resulting in improved efficiency, transparency, and accountability.
He attributed the success to the leadership of Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata, noting that the county has effectively automated services such as license applications, health and human resource management, business geo-mapping, and bursary applications.
The Vihiga team also explored innovative solutions, including telemedicine, which has enhanced healthcare access by enabling patients in remote areas to receive medical consultations without travelling long distances.
“Telemedicine has emerged as a transformative approach in healthcare delivery, improving access and patient outcomes by leveraging technology,” said Ottichilo, adding that Vihiga is keen on adopting similar innovations.
The governor noted that the benchmarking mission will guide Vihiga County in strengthening its digital systems to ensure faster, more efficient, and citizen-centred services.
He revealed that Vihiga has already automated revenue management, land management, and human resource systems, while plans were underway to integrate additional services into the County Integrated Development System to enhance operational efficiency and transparency.
