The County Government of Vihiga hosted the Vihiga County Youth Convention 2026 at Kaimosi Friends National Polytechnic, bringing together youth, government officials, development partners and stakeholders to deliberate on youth empowerment and development.
The convention was held under the theme “Youth for an Empowered Society: Technology, Entrepreneurship and Partnerships for Resilient Growth.”

Discussions focused on issues affecting young people and opportunities for empowerment through innovation, entrepreneurship, creativity and partnerships aimed at promoting sustainable development.
The forum followed countywide youth talent auditions that provided a platform for young people across Vihiga to showcase their skills in spoken word, music, dance, comedy, journalism, storytelling, and art and design. The auditions aimed at identifying, nurturing and promoting local talent while encouraging youth participation in the creative economy.
The convention concluded with performances by top contestants from the auditions, with outstanding participants receiving awards in recognition of their creativity and talent. Youth-led initiatives and enterprises also showcased their work during exhibitions highlighting innovation and entrepreneurship within the county.
Speaking during the event, Vihiga Deputy Governor Wilberforce Kitiezo assured the youth that their concerns had been noted and would inform ongoing government interventions targeting youth development.
He congratulated the award winners and encouraged young people to continue pursuing their talents and taking advantage of available opportunities.
Partners who participated in the convention included representatives from the National Government, the Institute for Social Accountability (TISA), the Youth Enterprise Development Fund, A Collision with Purpose, and the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI), among others.
