One person died, while three others sustained injuries, while fetching water from an old well that collapsed in Kathozweni sub county.
The incident occurred at Londokwe river, Thavu Village, Kathozweni ward Saturday, as residents drew water from the well.
Confirming the incident, the County Executive for Health Services Joyce Mutua said, “Upon receiving the report, the Department’s Emergency Response team was immediately deployed to the scene with an ambulance.
Four women were rescued and rushed to the Makueni County Referral Hospital (MCRH) for emergency care.
However one of the victims, who had been critically injured, succumbed to the injuries upon arrival. The other three are in stable condition and are receiving medical attention at the hospital, ” said Mutua, in a signed press statement sent to the media Saturday.
She revealed that rescue efforts continue at the scene to establish whether there could be more casualties, complete with a standby ambulance and emergency personnel to provide any further support that may be needed.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and wishes the injured persons a full and speedy recovery,” said Mutua.
