Hundreds of young entrepreneurs in Tharaka Nithi County have been equipped with financial management skills aimed at helping them make informed decisions, grow their businesses, and contribute to economic development.
The entrepreneurs turned up in large numbers for a two-day financial literacy training organised by the Micro and Small Enterprises Authority (MSEA) Tharaka Nithi County Office, in collaboration with the Kenya Bankers Association (KBA).
The training covered key areas including financial planning, budgeting, saving, record keeping, responsible borrowing, digital financial services, and effective management of business finances.
Speaking during the closing ceremony, Chuka Igambang’ombe Constituency Member of Parliament Patrick Munene said financial literacy was critical in ensuring entrepreneurs benefit fully from various empowerment programmes and build sustainable enterprises.
Munene noted that initiatives such as the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) programme provide important support to young entrepreneurs, but the knowledge on how to manage finances is equally important in ensuring the funds are invested wisely to grow businesses and improve livelihoods.
He urged entrepreneurs to embrace financial discipline, plan well, and focus on expanding their enterprises to create more employment opportunities.
Dr Samuel Tiriongo, Director of Research and Policy at the Kenya Bankers Association, said empowering entrepreneurs with financial knowledge is essential in strengthening the micro and small enterprise sector, which remains a major contributor to job creation and economic growth.
He encouraged business owners to maintain proper records, save, and make informed financial decisions to enhance the sustainability of their enterprises.
MSEA Tharaka Nithi County Director Nellydiana Nteere said the training was part of the Authority’s efforts to build the capacity of micro and small enterprise owners by equipping them with practical skills necessary for business growth.
She encouraged participants to apply the knowledge gained to improve their enterprises and take advantage of opportunities available to support small businesses.
The training concluded with participants receiving certificates after successfully completing the two-day programme.
