The Sh500 million affordable housing project in Bomet County is progressing steadily and is nearing completion.
According to the engineer overseeing the project, Samuel Gathara, the project was 88 percent complete, and the housing units within Bomet town will soon be available for occupation.
Speaking during an inspection of the project site, Eng. Gathara confirmed that
The housing units’ project, which spans from the 1st to the 4th floor in each block, comprises 220 units. The project includes one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom apartments, catering to various housing needs for residents.
He said the installation of the water system and plumbing works has been completed, with water flowing well in all units.
Additionally, he said the electrical work has been finalized, with the remaining bit, including painting, expected to be completed by next week.
However, the project, he added, has experienced a few setbacks, including connection to sewer line systems, attributing the delay to pending approval by the Bomet County Government.
Other challenges, he added, include heavy rains that has bogged down construction works and the presence of a dumping site directly opposite the construction area, raising sanitary concerns.
Despite these obstacles, Gathara affirmed that the entire Bomet Affordable Housing project remains on schedule in line with the expected date of completion set for July 2025.
President William Ruto is expected to officially commission the affordable housing project upon its completion.
