KPA donates Sh3.35M food to Muslim families

The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) has donated food supplies worth Sh3.35 million to support vulnerable Muslim families during the holy month of Ramadhan, with the consignment set to benefit 25 organisations across Mombasa County.

Speaking during a flagging-off ceremony at the KPA headquarters in Mombasa, Managing Director Captain William Ruto said the initiative reflects the Authority’s commitment to standing in solidarity with Muslim communities during Ramadhan, recognising that many families face challenges in securing meals for the Iftar evening fast-breaking.

“For the last three years under my leadership, we have consistently been giving Iftar food supplies to community-based organisations within the county. This year, having listened to the community and observed the growing needs around us, we are donating supplies worth Sh3.35 million,” he said.

Captain Ruto said the donation demonstrates KPA’s dedication to uplifting lives, strengthening community welfare, and responding to the needs of disadvantaged families during the fasting period.

“At Kenya Ports Authority, we pride ourselves on standing together in solidarity with our Muslim brothers and sisters during this sacred month of Ramadhan. Our initiatives are anchored in the strong core value that we care, a statement that reflects how we engage with communities in responding to their needs,” he said.

Among the beneficiary organisations are the Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK), the Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM), the Mombasa Madrassa Teachers Welfare, the Assembly of Ulama and Imams, and the Kenya Muslim Women Alliance, as well as various learning institutions through elected community leaders.

He added that food supplies for Lamu County had already been dispatched the previous week, with the authority working through existing community group collaborations to reach as many families as possible across the region.

Captain Ruto noted that Ramadhan is a period marked by compassion, reflection, charity, and unity and that KPA’s annual support is in keeping with the spirit of the holy month.

“KPA remains committed to investing in programmes that promote dignity, unity and human welfare. I trust that our partnership with religious leaders and community organisations will go a long way in building a more inclusive and compassionate society,” he said.

He extended his warmest wishes to the Muslim community for the conclusion of the holy month, wishing them an early Eid Mubarak on behalf of the KPA board and management.
