The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Monday kicked off its 30-day Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) exercise across various centres in Kiambu Town, with the Ndumberi Jitume Digital Hub drawing impressive crowds of young people from the first hours of the morning.
The hub, a popular training centre for fresh high school graduates undertaking various short digital courses, became a beehive of activity as youths queued to register as voters.
Many of the new applicants are beneficiaries of free skills programmes in areas such as digital marketing, artificial intelligence, cyber security and other ICT-related fields offered at the facility.
Evaline Wambui, the IEBC officer in charge of the Ndumberi registration centre, urged the young people to seize the opportunity and register so they can fully exercise their constitutional right to elect leaders of their choice.
“Register today so that you can participate meaningfully in the next general Election,” Wambui said while addressing the enthusiastic crowd.
Area Member of Parliament Machua Waithaka graced the official opening of the registration station.
He reminded the first-time voters that the forthcoming elections are not only about the presidency but also involve other crucial seats, including the Member of Parliament, Governor, Senator, Women Representative and Members of County Assembly.
“Leadership at every level matters for development. Look at what the Ndumberi ICT Hub has done for our youth: it is creating skills and opportunities. Similar development projects depend on leaders you elect at the constituency and county levels,” Waithaka told the gathering.
The MP encouraged the youths to link their newly acquired digital skills with active civic participation, noting that informed and registered voters can push for policies that support innovation, job creation and infrastructure.
IEBC has opened a 30-day window for mass voter registration that runs daily until Tuesday, April 28, 2026.
During this period, eligible Kenyans can register at any designated centre nationwide, including constituency offices, Huduma centres, universities, colleges and selected wards on a rotational basis.
The commission is targeting millions of new registrants, particularly young people, to expand the voter roll ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Officials have deployed sufficient kits and personnel to ensure smooth operations even as turnout remains high at youth-friendly locations like the Ndumberi hub.
Residents of Kiambu and surrounding areas have been encouraged to take advantage of the flexible registration drive and bring along required identification documents.
