IEBC launches mass voter registration drive in Laikipia

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has launched a month-long mass voter registration exercise in Laikipia County, targeting the registration of 29,998 new voters ahead of the next general elections.

Laikipia elections manager Kariuki Gachoki confirmed that the commission has deployed adequate polling clerks across the county to achieve the target and urged especially young people to take advantage of the initiative.

“I encourage youth who have not yet registered as voters to seize this opportunity provided by the IEBC,” he said.

To ensure efficiency, a minimum of three KIEMS kits have been placed in every ward, including at learning institutions and Huduma Centres. Laikipia has 15 wards, and the commission has ensured accessibility for all residents.

Gachoki also clarified that voters wishing to transfer their polling stations can only do so at IEBC offices. All prospective registrants are required to carry original national identity cards or passports.

The mass registration exercise forms part of the Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR), which is being commissioned nationwide.

The IEBC aims to register about 2.5 million new voters across the country during the one-month drive, deploying approximately 12,000 polling clerks to facilitate the process.
