IEBC targets over 73,000 new voters in Bungoma

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) targets to register 73,755 new voters in the Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) that kicked off across 13 Sub-counties in Bungoma County.

The County Elections Co-Ordinator Grace Rono is calling on the youths in the area who have acquired National Identity Cards and have not registered as voters to turn up in large numbers and register in order to exercise their democratic right of electing leaders.

The Co-Ordinator who was speaking at the IEBC office in Bungoma today during a stakeholder’s forum said that 162 registration kits will be used in the nine constituencies in the County for the exercise that is set to take place in 30 days.

She asked stakeholders to work closely with IEBC personnel deployed on the ground to ensure success of the exercise.

The Co-Ordinator noted that the registration clerks have been adequately  trained and asked residents to present a national identity card, or passport for the exercise.

During the last Continuous Voter Registration exercise, 5430 new voters registered against a target of 18840.
