County sponsors five teams to participate in national drama festivals

The Vihiga County Government has sponsored five teams to participate in the ongoing 64th Edition of Kenya National Drama and Film Festivals, currently taking place in Nyeri County.

The prestigious event is being hosted at Kagumo Teachers Training College, Nyeri National Polytechnic, and Dedan Kimathi University of Technology, under the theme “Bold Storytellers’ Digital Stages: Driving Kenya’s Development through Theatre and Film.”

Among the standout performers from Vihiga County, Ebussamba ECDE emerged as runners-up in the documentary category with their production “A Safe Place”, while Emutsuru ECDE also impressed audiences with a choral verse presentation titled “Mswaki”.

Other participating teams from the county are still awaiting results. Boyani VTC showcased its talent through a creative cultural dance, choral verse, and solo verse performances, while Hambale VTC presented a narrative piece. Maseno VTC competed in multiple categories, including a play, modern dance, and spoken word.

The annual festivals continue to play a vital role in nurturing young talent across the country while promoting key life skills such as teamwork, creativity, and critical thinking.

This year’s edition  has also embraced technological advancement, with increased integration of digital tools and artificial intelligence in storytelling, reflecting the evolving landscape of Kenya’s creative industry.
