Kiambu, Israel explores new avenues for cooperation

Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has welcomed a partnership between the County and the government of Israel in key sectors aimed at boosting socio-economic transformation of the County.

Wamatangi said that Kiambu County is ready to secure international collaboration and resource-sharing, particularly in the fields of agriculture, health, transport, and trade.

The governor noted that Kiambu County will benefit immensely through the use of Israeli technology to supply water to arid areas within the county.

He added that the partnership will mainly focus on farming, where Kiambu seeks to use Israeli modern technology in value addition to agricultural products to enable farmers to compete effectively in both local and international markets.

Wamatangi made the remarks when he hosted the Israeli Ambassador to Kenya, Gideon Behar, who paid him a courtesy call in his County Office Tuesday.

By bringing in modern technology, farm productivity will be improved, especially in tackling the water scarcity issues that have held back Kiambu farmers for prolonged periods,” Wamatangi noted.

The governor concurred with the Envoy on the need to revitalize Kiambu’s cooperative movement, a vital lifeline for local farmers and small business owners, noting that stronger cooperatives were key to unlocking better market access, affordable credit and expert technical support for the community.

The discussions also involved urban development, focusing on modern traffic management. The governor at the same time asked Israel to invest in the upcoming Thika Industrial Smart City as a prime opportunity to integrate Israel’s world-class expertise in smart city technology.

Healthcare was another key topic, with a focus on using modern state-of-the-art technology to boost the quality of medical services across the County.

Wamatangi expressed confidence in the deliberations defining them as a major step towards expanding Kiambu’s global reach. He further emphasized that the partnership would move beyond talk and deliver real projects, sparking innovation and economic growth for the County.

Ambassador Behar committed to taking part in the forthcoming Kiambu Trade Fair, where further discussions on the partnership with Kiambu County would be enhanced.

Meanwhile, Kiambu County is aggressively pursuing international partnerships as a core part of its economic strategy.

By positioning itself as a hub for investment and innovation, the County’s recent engagement with Israel represents a major step toward expanding its global reach and improving essential services for its residents.
