Govt reiterates commitment to complete over Sh50 billion worth of projects in Baringo

Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki has expressed the government’s commitment to completing infrastructure projects worth over Sh50 billion in Baringo County.

Speaking at Torongo Centre in Eldama Ravine Constituency after inspection of ongoing roads, housing and electricity projects, Kindiki said he is optimistic that the development by the national government will be completed in time so as to benefit residents.

The Deputy President disclosed that the administration of President William Ruto is tarmacking 854 kilometers of road network across the nine sub-counties at a cost of Sh32 billion.

He noted that the road network, apart from opening up the vast county, will ease transportation of people and goods, therefore improving the economy.

Kindiki stated that Sh22 billion has been earmarked for affordable housing, fresh produce markets and institutional housing, with an additional Sh712 million to be used to connect 4,000 new homes with electricity.

“We are pushing for this landmark project for Baringo so that when the time comes, they will be able to rate us according to our accomplishment,” he said.

Kindiki, at the same time, said he will consult President Ruto to increase the allocation for rural electrification projects across the county to up to Sh 1.5 billion in order to benefit more households.

He assured Baringo’s residents that the government was now concentrating on developing the county after eradicating the insecurity menace, which had bedeviled the area for a long time.

Area Member of Parliament (MP) Musa Sirma, in his remarks, lauded the government for its efforts in implementing multiple development projects aimed at boosting economic growth, infrastructure and agricultural productivity in the region.

Sirma requested the national government to support Eldama Ravine town, which he stated is currently the least municipality in terms of road infrastructure, as well as Sh50 million for pipework for Torongo residents to get clean and safe water from the neighboring Chemususu mega dam.

Mogotio MP Reuben Kiborek echoed the sentiments of all Baringo leaders who lauded the current government for its efforts in actualizing the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

Kiborek said the progress to transform the county that had been left behind since the late President Moi’s era will propel the current government’s ambition to seek their re-election next year.

Kindiki’s visit to Baringo County comes barely a week after another development tour in the neighboring Mogotio Constituency, where he inspected a number of ongoing government projects.
